Record 10-11 (-261)
Taking the Toronto Blue Jays (-127)
The Jays start Brandon Morrow. On the year his numbers seem lousy. 1-2 with a 6.14 ERA. So why do I like Jays ? Let's look deeper at Morrow. His ERA is high, but he does have 24 strikeouts in 22 innings, and a .234 BAA. He does walk alot of guys, but the A's are not a particularly patient team at the plate. In his last 2 starts, Morrow went 13 innings, allowing only 6 hits with 16 strikeouts. Last year against the A's he was awesome. In 11 innings pitched against the A's, he allowed only 2 hits with 13 strikeouts, and a BAA of only .054. For his entire career against the A's he is 2-0 with a 4.13 ERA, but with 38 strikeouts in 32.2 innings, and a BAA of .176. Morrow is a better pitcher than his season numbers show, and he will shine tonight.
Meanwhile the A's go with Trevor Cahill, who was called up from Triple A Sacramento to make the start. He has only pitched 8.2 innings in the minors this season (he had a lousy spring, with a 5.95 ERA which got him a ticket to the minors), allowing 7 hits and 5 walks. In 2009 he was 10-13 with a 4.63 ERA, a 1.442 WHIP and a .270 BAA. On the road last year (which is his entire career), he was 3-6 with a 5.10 ERA. For his career against the Jays he is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA, a 2.156 WHIP and a .310 BAA.
The public will see Cahill's 0.00 ERA and Morrow's 6.14 ERA and they will play the A's. But as you can see, those numbers are deceptive. The A's, who have lost 3 in a row and who are 3-6 on the road this year, will get thumped by the Jays tonight.

Record is 10-10 (-159)
Minnesota Twins vs. Detroit Tigers OVER 9.5 -102.
Carl Pavano has been a nice surprise for the Twins, his only foible on the year was during a daytime start. He has an ERA of 7.71 during the day and a .340 OBP and last night these Tigers pumped out 11 runs and seem to have their bats coming around up and down this lineup. That being said, Minnesota pumped out 6 runs in the loss but has been the more consistent batting team all year long and should get some good looks at Willis who hasn't been good at home with a 7.20 ERA and a daytime of ERA of 6.00 with a really bad OBP of .444. He gave up 8 hits and 4 runs and 2 walks to the Twins in a previous start this year, lasting ONLY 4.2 innings and now Minnesota gets another shot at him today. Even with players sitting, this game staying under the number is in tough today.
Good Luck!

Tuesday Baseball Play
Our play got rained out yesterday, so we remain with a Record of 10-9 (+003).
Today, grab the New York Yankees (-162).
The Orioles are 3-16 on the season and the New York Yankees are getting excellent results from Phil Hughes.
After flirting with a no-hitter his last time out, Hughes returns to the mound Tuesday night with the Yankees hoping to keep the Baltimore Orioles winless at home.
Hughes (2-0, 2.19 ERA) did not make his 2010 debut until April 15 since New York (12-6) did not need a fifth starter to that point. He turned in a solid five-inning effort to beat the Angels that night and was simply brilliant in his next outing.
This one shouldn't be close.

Still plan on riding the Mets' good play of late. They're 7-3 in their last 10 and have won 4 in a row.
Perez is 3-1 with a 2.84 ERA in four starts against the Dodgers. He engineered the Mets' only win in six meetings against them last year, allowing two runs and four hits with seven walks in five innings of a 5-4 victory on July 8 at Citi Field.
Today's pick is the NY Mets (+121)

Sunday Gravy Play
Now 9-9 (-102) on the season.
Tonight, I like the Mets to continue their winning ways (+105).

In their last 4 games, the Braves (8-9) have totaled six runs, batting .209 overall and .129 with men in scoring position.

Thursday Bases
Record is 8-8 (-082)
Today, I see value in taking the Tampa Bay Rays (+100).
With a win Thursday, the Rays would set a team high for victories during a single road trip. They went 8-1 in June 2004.
Chicago, meanwhile, has lost five of six to fall into last in the AL Central. The White Sox finished with four hits Wednesday, and are batting .198 at home.

Saturday Early Game Total!
Record 4-1 (+257)
Going right back to the well today, as I was very surprised to see this total set at only 8.5.
The Nationals have given up 32 runs in 4 games, meaning an average on 8 per game. The Nationals will hand the ball to John Lannan (0-1, 12.27 ERA), who looks to bounce back after lasting only 3 2/3 innings against the Phillies on Monday. Lannan gave up five runs and seven hits in the 11-1 loss, with eight of the 10 batters he faced in the fourth inning reaching base.
The left-hander is 3-4 with a 3.62 ERA in 10 career starts against the Mets, including 0-3 with a 6.00 ERA in five starts in New York.
For the Mets, Oliver Perez went 0-1 in five spring training starts and one relief appearance, posting an 8.68 ERA while walking 10 in 18 2/3 innings.
He lost both outings to the Nationals last season, giving up 11 runs and walking nine in 10 1/3 innings. Overall, he is 3-5 with a 7.14 ERA against them.
How can this game not go Over 8.5 (-120) this afternoon?

Today I like the match-up between the Washington Nationals and New York Mets.
Mike Pelfrey didn't provide much confidence during six starts in spring training, going 0-4 with a 6.15 ERA while getting dropped to fourth in the rotation. Pelfrey, though, is 3-5 with a 3.93 ERA in 12 starts against Washington (1-2), including an 0-2 mark and a 4.29 ERA in the last three.
The Nats will give the ball to Mock, who went 3-10 with a 5.62 ERA in 28 games , 15 starts last season. The right-hander didn't fare much better in five starts during spring training, going 0-4 with a 5.79 ERA.
