For Wednesday, I like the Chicago Cubs -140 vs the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Pirates start lefty Zach Duke. He is 3-5 on the year with a 5.09 ERA and a .322 BAA. At home this year he is 1-2 with a 3.57 ERA, but a BAA of .313. For the month of May he went 35.2 innings, allowing 52 hits and 9 walks. Against the Cubs last year he was 0-3 with a 5.68 ERA and a .333 BAA. He is 4-8 for his entire career against the Cubs, since 2007 he is 0-7 against them with a 5.24 ERA and a .336 BAA.
Meanwhile, the Cubs start Carlos Zambrano. Over his last 5 appearances, he went a total of 4.1 innings. In those 4.1 innings he allowed 0 earned runs, with only 1 hit and 1 walk. The Pirates bat a lousy .232 against righties this year (2nd worst in the NL), and I think they are going to faced a humbled Zambrano tonight as he makes his return to the rotation.
Good Luck!

NFL Picks for Week 5
Cleveland Browns/Buffalo Bills OVER 41 (-110). This certainly isn't one of the marquee games of the week in the NFL but with the defense of these 2 teams playing the way they are and with the Buffalo injuries factored in, the OVER is in play in this game from our perspective. These teams combined give up 57 points per game and Cleveland comes into Buffalo off of their best offensive performance with Derek Anderson at the helm. Buffalo is chomping at the bit to get going offensively and against this porous defense, the time is right. Last year Cleveland came into Buffalo and the final total was 56 points with Cleveland as a 4.5 pt dog covering and the total was set at 40.5. This year they come in as a 6 pt dog and pretty much the same total. We will gladly take a similar total result of 56, but 42 is fine with us, and we should get it as bad defenses tend to make average offenses look powerful.
Adding
Oakland vs New York Giants Over 37.5
Pittsburgh vs Detroit Over 44
Have a great Sunday!

Saturday Plays
MLB Play
LA Dodgers vs St Louis Cardinals OVER 8.5 -115. The listed Pitchers are Vincente Padilla and Joel Piniero. A major step down in quality of pitching for this game after the first 4 starters. Lots of hits in this series but not a lot of runs. Venue change and the fact St Louis needs this to stay alive says the runs come about in this one. Both pitchers 6-0 OVER last 6 starts combined with ERAs both OVER 5. Rain and bullpens could come into play, helps our cause.
NHL Play
Pittsburgh Penguins vs Toronto Maple Leafs OVER 6 -135. It will once again be a circus in town with Sid and his Stanley Cup teammates coming to Toronto and the electricity will be palpable once again. These two teams as they are 9-1-1 to the OVER in the last 11 meetings. Pitt bounced back with 5 goals in a big win after a bad home loss, while Toronto will come out hard after being read the riot act in their last effort versus Ottawa. Toskala starting for Toronto helps us as well. Like goals here, play OVER 6.

Tuesday night play
Today, we like the Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 (-115) against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
We are going back to the well here as well as Wolf is a pitcher who has made us some money this year and with some extra rest after skipping a start due to a slight injury, he should be more than ready to continue his strong pitching performances. He is 3-0 his last 3 with a 2.21 ERA and LA has won 5 straight games he's started where he's had a 2.09 ERA over that span with an impressive 5:1 strikeout to walk ratio.
Duke, on the other hand is in bad form. Not only is he 0-3 his last 3, he has allowed 32 hits in ONLY 13 innings and has a 12.46 ERA. He is 1-3 lifetime vs the Dodgers with a 7.53 ERA while Wolf is 7-1 vs Pitt in his career. Did I mention Pitt is hitting a paltry .145 vs left-handed pitching and has lost 19 of their last 21 on the road.

Another total for Tuesday.
The Pittsburgh Pirates start lefty Paul Maholm tonight. The Houston Astros hit .285 against left handed pitching, and Maholm is a crummy lefty. For the year his ERA is 4.69 and his batting average against is .290. On the road, his ERA jumps to 6.05 and his batting average against is .304. At Minute Maid Park this year, his ERA is 5.14. At Minute Maid from 2006-2008, his ERA was 8.70 and his batting average against was .337. In his last 4 outings, he has allowed 38 hits and 7 walks in only 21.1 innings.
Meanwhile, the Astros start Brian Moehler. On the year he has a 5.64 ERA and a .304 batting average against. At home his ERA is 7.81 and his batting average against is .359. For his career against the Pirates he is 6-5 with a 6.07 ERA. He is 1-1 against the Pirates this year with a 4.76 ERA and a .304 batting average against. He has seemingly pitched well lately (2.65 ERA over his last 3 starts), but don't let that fool you, as he has feasted mostly on the bottom-feeders of both leagues (San Diego, Kansas City, Minnesota, and Arizona).
These two teams have played 3 times this year at Minute Maid Park. All 3 have gone over the total. Tonight makes number 4.
Today's play is over 9 (-115) in the Astros vs. Pirates game.

The Marlins have won 3 games in a row and are 7-3 in their last 10. Hanley Ramirez is on a tear, raising his league leading batting average to .348 and against the Pirates he is batting .398 now.
The Pirates have lost 4 of their last 5 andare playing only .368 on the road, therefore our pick today is the Florida Marlins (-147) to beat the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Hump Day Total
The Red Sox came through for us yesterday, let's continue the streak with a total tonight. Carl Pavano has gone back to his old ways with a bloated ERA of 7.23 in the month of June. In his last 9.2 innings he has allowed the opposition 20 hits. Cleveland is 6-1 for the Over in the last 7 games and are averaging a little over 6 runs scored when facing left handed pitching. Zach Duke of the Pirates has a batting average against of .314 for the month of June, therefore today's pick is Cleveland Indians vs Pittsburgh Pirates OVER 8.5 (-120).
